Meeting Minutes

Chris Danforth, Bing Zhang, Stacey Nicholls, Danny Dunlavy

New Business

Selection of GSG departmental representatives
Suzanne Sindi will continue as GSG representative for the entire year.
Stacey will be a GSG representative in the Fall.
Either Bing or Chris will be the representative in the Spring.

Becoming a GSG-registered student group
Voted to register as a GSG student group.
Motion: Chris, second: Stacey. In favor: 4, opposed: none.

Benefits
The following were discussed as possibilities for GSG funding:

Hiring a student to head study groups for qualifying exams for
exams that the Math Dept. does not have such a group
-
End of year picnic
-
Graduating Student Conference (talks by students and two former AMSC
students (academic/industrial) to talk about transition to first job)

SC student seminar
-
SC office hours for SC courses (equivalent to qualifying exam study groups)

Requirements
-
Chris volunteered to become the ASC Treasurer, a position required
for groups seeking GSG registration.
-
Danny will start the registration process: amend the ASC Constitution to
include a treasurer as an Officer, put the new Constitution to a vote,
and register
the ASC through the GSG web site.

ASC Website
The following were discussed: calendar of events, constitution, links to orgs
involved in
Bing volunteered to maintain the web site and act unofficially as the ASC
Secretary.

AMSC Graduate Committee Meeting
We agreed to ask the committee to publish the SC preliminary requirements.
We also
will announce the creation of the ASC to the Graduate Committee.

Member Business
The ASC agreed to invite all AMSC students to ASC meetings in the future.
We unofficially adopted the motto, "Share the work to share the wealth"
for the ASC.
