Graduation Conference

Participants
- Not clear if the spotlight people should get longer talks
- Undergraduates: Target those that are in the honors program (already have the honors thesis) also target undergraduates in RIT programs (this involves the VIGRE)
- Poster Session: The idea is use posters already done. Posters targeted at RIT’s to recruit people.
- Panel Discussion: People who are graduating; and those recent graduates: Will Ott, Sarah Brown, Gustavo Rohde, Danny Dunleavy, Ryan Lance, Ian Frommer, Brandy Rapatski, DJ Patil, Ioannis, Kobi Snitz; talk to grad department head about other people
- Emphasis on getting STAT students involved; we will work on out reach

Funding
- Request $1,500 – 2,000 planned. $400 from SIAM, $500 VIGRE, $500 GSG, $100 from Math, AMSC,IPST,STAT,CSCAM,AWM(?)
- Expenses: Food; do a nice lunch not as late for dinner
- Expenses also for advertising

Advertising
- Plan to print the fliers on campus
- We need a new logo.
- Get out the word to undergrads: Math Club, Honors Programs, RIT
- Get out the word to grads: lists from Alverda and Darcy, Informational meeting, individual contacts
- Ideas to make the conference more professional; have a printed schedule of talks and abstracts

Scheduling
- Do not want to have close to finals; Mid-April
- Thursday or Friday of a week are good choices
- Perhaps have the talks at 3pm coincide with the Dept Seminar
- Have talks in room 3206 and have refreshments in the Lounge
- If we have parallel sessions will need to reserve other rooms

Website
- JT maintains the Spotlight website and has volunteered to maintain this website
- Goal: have all the programs have a link to the Conference Website on their main page

Allocation of Responsibilities
- Contact People for Panel Discussions - Suzanne Sindi
- Financial Affairs - Bob Shuttleworth
- Website - JT Halbert, Aaron Lott
- Talk to RIT folks about advertising in a poster session and to involve their students - JT Halbert
- Find out who is graduating (grads and undergrads): Johanna Pressley, Qing Xia
- Reach out actively to STAT People: Qing Xia
- Room/Equipment Reservation and Securing a place in the math seminar; Chris Danforth
- Scheduling an informational meeting for February; Chris Danforth

- AMSC does not have voting rights in GSG only departments, will participate as Math Department Reps
