Dear AMSC,
I have a research assistantship in scientific computation available immediately and looking for interested graduate students. Please see below for details
Sash
A graduate research assistant position (Masters/PhD) in computational magma dynamics is available. The project involves numerical modeling of multiphase, multicomponent flow with an application to the Earth's core-mantle boundary. The code will be developed using PETSC, an open-source library for solving nonlinear PDE s in a cluster environment.
The project also involves developing advanced visualization of simulated data as well as observations from seismic measurements of the Earth's deep interior, using open source software.
The project is suitable for students with a strong background in PDE s and numerical methods and some experience in scientific computation in a parallel environment (preferably mpi). To learn more about the research in the magma dynamics group, visit http://www.geol.umd.edu/~saswata/research.html .
If you are interested, please feel free to contact Sash Hier-Majumder at saswata@umd.edu
