A graduate research assistant position (Masters/PhD) in computational 
magma dynamics is available.  The project involves numerical modeling of 
multiphase, multicomponent flow with an application to the Earth's 
core-mantle boundary. The code will be developed using PETSC, an 
open-source library  for solving nonlinear PDE s in a cluster 
environment. 

<p>
The project also involves developing advanced visualization 
of simulated data as well as observations from seismic measurements of 
the Earth's deep interior, using open source software.

<p>
The project is suitable for students with a strong background in PDE s 
and numerical methods and some experience in scientific computation in a 
parallel environment (preferably mpi).  To learn more about the research
