Applied Statistics Practicum
Overview
The goal of the one-semester Practicum is to bring students face-to-face with the experience of statistical
research in a real-world setting. Students will participate actively in a semester-long applied statistical
project, such as an internship or collaborative research assistantship involving more planning and implementation
than the smaller projects assigned in a classroom setting.
To prepare students with skills both in writing report and giving presentation, within one year of completion of
the Practicum project, students will be required to attend the Applied Statistics Seminar (AMSC 761) and give
one talk (at least 1/2 hour) primarily focusing on the work done during the Practicum.

Administration of the Practicum
- The Statistics Consortium will coordinate a newly proposed Graduate Statistics Internship program to monitor and arrange the off-campus Practicum.
- AMSC will appoint one faculty mentor to the course AMSC 760 each year. AMSC office staff together with the faculty mentor will handle the practical issues related to ensuring Practicum work meets AMSC guidelines.
