Preliminary Requirements for Applied Statistics Concentration
The student must fulfill the below three requirements in accordance with a Study
Advisory Plan
approved by the AMSC Graduate Committee.
If the student deviates
from a previously approved Study Plan, the student must submit a revised Study Plan to the Graduate Committee for
approval before applying for candidacy.
I. Course Requirements
The student must finish the specified Core Courses
and meet the requirements for Application Courses and Electives.
II. Qualifying Exam Requirements
The student must meet three qualifying examination requirements at a Ph.D
level.
III. Seminar Requirement
There are three constraints when fulfilling the seminar requirement:
- Students are required to take Applied Statistics Seminar (AMSC 761)
within one year after completing the compulsory course AMSC 760 (Practicum).
- Students must choose at least one approved Seminar/RIT
with a focus in an area of applied statistics. The chosen Seminar/RIT must include a mandatory written
and oral presentaion as part of the course requirements;
- Students must choose at least one approved Seminar/RIT in their area of application, e.g. engineering,
business, economics, biology, etc.
For one credit the student is expected to attend the seminar regularly, and to give at least one half-hour
(or longer) talk on an application of statistics. If the student decides to take a seminar course in a
participating department, he or she must have prior consent of the Director. The faculty member in charge
of the seminar must attest that the requirements listed above have been met.
