Research
AMSC is an interdisciplinary research program that allows students and faculty to work together to improve knowledge through Mathematical Modeling, Computation and Statistics. Faculty from affiliated departments, centers, institutions and National research centers form one of the largest and most diverse Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computatation programs in the country. Courses, weekly seminars, and Research Interaction Teams (RITs) provide students with an introduction into numerious research tracks.
AMSC students regularly present their research at student seminars and Research Interaction Team (RIT) meetings. Each Fall students have the opportunity to present their research at the Spotlight on Graduate Research Competition via the Monroe Martin Talks and the Seymour Goldberg Papers. Graduating students are also given the opportunity to present their research at the Annual Graduation Conference held each Spring.
Students also participate in CSCAMM, DOE, NSF, and SIAM programs, workshops and conferences. Aside from these programs, students and faculty publish their work in top journals and present their research at regional, national and international conferences and meetings.
Research Groups
Below are links to several AMSC research groups. Most of these groups have active Research Interaction Teams (RITs) where students can become introduced to the area of research through weekly discussions. The links in the left column are to the AMSC student council wiki. The wiki is provided to help students choose courses and qualifying exams based on their area of interest. All information on the wiki is posted by and for students.
In addition to these research groups students can find a complete listing of AMSC faculty research interests to assist in finding research advisors.
If you wish to add your research group below, please send an e-mail to amsc@amsc.umd.edu including:
- a link to the group's website
- a description of the the group's research interests
- a list of the group's faculty members
- a list of recommended background to begin research in your field
- a list of recommended qualifying exams for students in AMSC
