Transfer between Graduate Programs
Students are admitted only for a specified objective, that is, master's degree, doctoral degree, or Advanced Special Student status. If a student wishes to change his or her objective, he or she must submit a new application. Admission in the new status is not granted automatically. A student's admission terminates when the objective for which he or she has been admitted is attained.
Transfer between graduate programs is in general not automatic. An exception to this rule is presently made for students admitted to the graduate programs in AMSC, MATH and STAT. A student enrolled in one of these three programs is allowed to transfer freely from one to another during the first year of graduate study. Such a transfer during the second year of graduate study is still possible provided the student has taken courses that allow for a timely completion of requirements in the new program. It is advisable that any student who thinks he or she might consider such transfer discuss it with the Directors of both programs involved as early as possible.
Students who wish to transfer to a graduate program (other than the case discussed above) have to submit a new application through the Graduate School. Admission to the new program will be considered on the same basis as that of all other applicants.
